The High Point Historical Society presents its sixth annual History Rocks! Saturday, October 1 from noon to 4 pm at the High Point Museum. It’s a fun-filled day with something for everyone. The fundraiser includes music, bake sale, crafts, hands-on activities, games, and demonstrations. Uncle Maddio’s Pizza will be selling pepperoni and cheese pizza and drinks with 10% of the proceeds going to the High Point Historical Society. Three local bands will be performing Brandon Snow 12 pm to 1 pm; Lakota John Locklear 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and High Point’s Tange Lomax from 3 pm to 4 pm. Bring chairs and blankets to sit and listen to the music in our Historical Park. At History Rocks!, the High Point Police Department will have various vehicles on display including their Bearcat. A K9 demonstration will be held at 3 pm. A special feature will be our rock-a-thon to benefit the Historical Society Adopt-An-Artifact program. The rock-a-thon will raise funds for the conservation of three objects identified by Museum Collections staff as needing special care. • A table built by Charlie Robbins, a local African-American bricklayer, in the early 1900s. • Portrait of Garland A. Gerran, High Point’s first black doctor who set up practice in High Point in the late 1890s. • An Indenture/Deed for 113 acres along the Deep River sold to Evan Hiatt by Andrew Lindsay, June 6, 1817. It is one of the oldest items in our collection that tells the story of our early Quaker settlers. And for Pokemon Go fans the Historical Park includes two Pokestops and two Pokegyms. Museum staff will be dropping lures throughout the day. The Museum also has free Wi-fi and will have a charging station set-up. All three of the historical buildings will be open and the blacksmith will be conducting demonstrations throughout the day. Admission is free so come out and support the High Point Historical Society. Thanks to our corporate sponsors for helping make this event a success: Creative Services, Carol Young, Realtor, and Adrienne Elwood-Cowan, DDS.
