Our 33rd annual High Point CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, September 25th at 4:00 pm. at First Baptist Church, to help our community become aware of hunger, its causes, and to raise funds to help stop hunger both locally and globally. Historically, at the end of World War II, many people wanted to share our country’s abundance with European war victims. Church World Service (CWS), an international relief, development, and refuge resettlement agency, was purposed to gather wheat and other crops from U.S. farms for shipment to Europe. Today, locally-organized, CWS sponsored CROP Hunger Walks are an important part of community life, bringing together people of different faiths, diverse cultures, and all age groups, to walk to raise monies and to bring help and hope to people in need around the world, in the U.S. and here in High Point! In as much as High Point and Greensboro have been listed as the # 1 community in the nation for food hardship and food insecurity, your involvement and support is needed now more than ever. We are very grateful to each of you who supported the walk in previous years and we ask for your support again. Our Walk, both a 1 mile and a 3 mile, will be in the Downtown High Point area beginning and ending at First Baptist Church at 405 N. Main Street. Please contact Leslie Graham at Open Door Ministries (336.885.0191 or LGraham@odm-hp.org) with your participation or any questions. We are also adding several prayer stops along the Walk, where our walkers will offer prayers for issues important to our community. These will include the sick, the mentally ill, those in prison, the homeless and hungry, the Furniture Market, our Colleges and University, and the churches in our community. Open Door Ministries is a non-profit organization with a mission to help people in need of food, shelter or emergency assistance in the High Point area. Each of our programs is designed to help some of our community’s most needy individuals and families. We depend upon financial and in-kind contributions to continue programs such as The Father’s Table, which serves 100,000 meals a year and a non-perishable food pantry servicing 2,500 families per year. Please come and join us and Thank you for your willingness to reach out and support the less fortunate in our own community!
