Leadership High Point
What is a Leadership Class?
Chambers of Commerce all across the nation offer Leadership programs for their respective cities and the High Point Chamber of Commerce is no exception. The High Point Chamber of Commerce proudly offers Leadership High Point to our business community. Leadership High Point showcases all that High Point, NC has to offer – from the furniture industry, to the hosiery industry, to the city recycling center to city government to prestigious speakers and so much more.
What does Leadership High Point do?
Leadership High Point creates ambassadors for our city and for our Chamber. By knowing High Point inside and out graduates ignite excitement for this city to their family, friends, peers, co-workers and visitors.
While participants are recognized as community leaders, they are taught throughout the class that to lead is to serve. With that charge, each Leadership High Point class must create and complete a service project for the community before graduating. The project must meet strict guidelines: approval from the HP Chamber Advisory Board, ability to be completed by graduation in November, a team effort, meet a community need, and sustain itself long-term. At the end of the year, class representatives make a final presentation to the High Point Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board.
How does it work?
Leadership High Point begins in February of each year with orientation and culminates with a graduation ceremony in mid-November. Actual class days run from March to November. Leadership High Point participants take the second Wednesday out of each month from 7:45 AM to 5:15 PM to devote to class time. Each class day has a specific theme such as environmentalism, communications, government and furniture, which are filled with tours, lectures and activities.
Leadership High Point Graduation & Alumni Group
The graduation ceremony congratulates all of the participants, honors the class valedictorian and awards some fun superlatives.
Most importantly, the Leadership journey does not end after graduation: Graduates from all 34 years of Leadership High Point classes gather together for networking, socializing and volunteering throughout the year through our Leadership High Point Alumni Association. To join the Leadership High Point Alumni Association, please contact Megan Oglesby, Senior Director of Leadership & Events.
